Prepare an Emergency Backpack

Keep an emergency backpack handy with items necessary for daily life and a first-aid kit.

Don’t overstuff the backpack as you would have difficulty carrying it around.
Three kilograms should be considered the maximum weight.
We recommend that you put the following items in the backpack.

Emergency backpack and stockpile list

Emergency backpack (primary emergency supplies)

The most important supplies to be used for evacuation

Emergency food, Water
Medicine (medicine usually kept at home)
Clothes (underwear, socks)
Towels
Work gloves
Helmet (or disaster prevention hood)
Cash
Bankbook, personal seal
Copies of health insurance certificate and driver’s license
Matches, lighter
Flashlight, portable radio
Spare batteries
Toothbrush
Cell phone, windup cell phone charger
Prepare the following items as well, if necessary.
Eyeglasses
Dentures
Residence card, special permanent resident certificate
Body formula, baby bottle
Disposable diapers
Sanitary napkins

Stockpiles (secondary emergency supplies)

Items to allow you to be self-sufficient for approximately the first three to seven days after a disaster has occurred
Food
Water
Portable gas cooking stove and canisters
Solid fuel
Blanket
Sleeping bag
